The 57-year-old German coach agreed on a two-year contact with our club.

Former Bundesliga player and experienced coach, Bernd Storck was appointed as a new manager of DAC today. He will take charge on 1 June 2020.

The 57-year-old professional (born 25 January 1963, Herne, Germany) has rich player and coach history. He played in 170 Bundesliga matches in the teams of VfL Bochum and Borussia Dortmund and scored eight goals. He won the German Cup with Dortmund in 1989.

After ending his playing career, he completed a trainer´s course and was an assistant coach with Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart, Hertha BSC, VfL Wolfsburg, and FK Partizan Belgrade. In 2008 he was appointed as manager of Kazakh side FC Almaty; at the same time, he has also managed Kazakhstan under-21 football team. Later, he also led the U19 team, and in from 2010 he worked as the coach of the Kazakhstan national football team. After his stage at the Olympiacos Piraeus’ youth team he was appointed as the coach of Hungary national under-20 team. He helped to qualify to the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which was held in New Zealand. The team, with Zsolt Kalmár and Máté Vida, was able to manage the qualification from the group stage, however, in the round of 16, they were knocked out by eventual winners Serbia.

In July 2015, he was appointed as the head coach of Hungary national football team after the resignation of Pál Dárdai and after the successful play-off his team secured a place at the UEFA Euro 2016. This was the first qualification of the Hungarian national team to a prestige football tournament after the 1986 World Cup and the team had to wait 44 years to be present at EURO again. Hungary won their group in France undefeated, but in the round of 16, Belgium knocked them out of the tournament. Storck was at the charge of the Hungary national football team till 2017.

In September 2018 he agreed to be a coach of the Belgian first league team, Royal Excelsion Mouscron. Before his arrival, the team was struggling on the very bottom of the league table, with no single point gained, but after Storck’s arrival the “Reds” recovered themselves and they avoided the relegation without any problem. Despite of this success, the coach has decided not to continue in his work at the club and in October 2019 took over Cercle Bruges. In March this year, when the team’s place in first league was already secured, the German coach resigned and left Bruges.

„In light of the considerations, Mr. Storck had the ideal profile given his extensive international experiences and being successful in several countries. Also, his stint at the national team of Hungary and EURO 2016 which also gives him a considerable knowledge of central European football. His 2 previous seasons in Belgium were nothing short of impressive both in terms of results achieved considering objectives set by his respective clubs in combination with a playing style which impressed all Belgian football pundits. Although he was considered at big clubs in bigger leagues, we are happy that Bernd committed to our project seeing the potential in the strong foundations of DAC with central pillar being its strong fan base,“ said Jan Van Daele, Sporting director of DAC. Given the exceptional circumstances, we are grateful to the commitment of Mr. Storck to take over the team while the Fortuna liga season is still ongoing from the 1st of June. The aim is not to lose time and build a strong team which is able to start well-prepared the new season to enable the club to achieve its goals for the next season.”

Bernd Storck signed his 2-year contract today with our club and takes over the professional work on 1. June 2020.

“I am delighted with the opportunity to be head coach of DAC for the next 2 years. From the beginning I had very good communication with both Mr. Világi and the Sports Director Jan Van Daele, and negotiations took place in a very professional way. I am looking very much forward to be, together with the fans, very successful in the future in this very ambitious project,” commented the new head coach of DAC.
